While working on a basic rules document for new players, I noticed there wasn’t much lore about the Half-Elves variants of D&D around. So, I did what any sensible writer might do: I wrote them myself.
Half-High Elves. Half-high elves are the most common of half-elves. Many high elves spend much time amongst humans, and some even form alliances of the reproductive kind. Most humans will easily accept a half-elf in their midst; high elves might be a bit more reserved, depending on their type. Nonetheless, half-high elves usually get the chance to experience either parent’s culture.
Half-Wood Elves. As a half-wood elf, you are deeply connected to the nature that surrounds you. Some half-wood elves who grew up in human environments seek out a more reclusive home, while others try to share their love for nature with their human friends and companions. Those who have been raised among elves often seek to acquire as many elven traits as possible, as not to risk being rejected by the community.
Half-Drow Elves. Encountering a half-drow elf is a somewhat rare occurrence. Drow don’t usually mingle with other races, though some decide to reject their lifestyle and life on their own terms instead. A half-drow elf is usually the result of a union between such a drow renegade and a human. Though some half-drow make an effort to be accepted into a community on either side of their heritage, many decide to life a secluded life away from the social confines of society.
Half-Sea Elves. Driven by human curiosity as well as their elven love for the sea, most half-sea elves spend their life travelling and exploring the world, as well as any other worlds accessible to them. Despite their somewhat withdrawn ancestors, they are usually very friendly towards new people, especially if they share the love for exploration and discovery.
